General Science: Health - Dental Care








 





Objective:* Explain practices which lead to the maintenance of good dental hygiene.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Practices which lead to the maintenance of good dental hygiene are:


* Don't go to bed without brushing your teeth.

* Brush  your teeth properly using fluoride toothpaste.

* Don't neglect your tongue.... brush it thoroughly.

* Flossing is as important as brushing floss regularly to get rid of tiny food particles between the teeth that the toothbrush canโ€™t get rid of.

* Use mouthwash regularly to cut bad breath.

* Drink lots of water.

* Eat crunchy vegetables and fruits such as :
watermelon ๐Ÿ‰ apple ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ , ripe banana๐ŸŒ   Grapes ๐Ÿ‡ , strawberry ๐Ÿ“ kiwi ๐Ÿฅ broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ  lettuce ๐Ÿฅฌ ,  carrots ๐Ÿฅ•, onions ๐Ÿง…  etc.


* Limit sugary foods. 

* See your dentist at least twice per year.

*Activity 1: Engage in Discussion

1. Have your daughter give a big smile and use your phone camera to take a picture of her.

                  *OR*

2. Have your daughter stand in front of a mirror
and smile.

Discuss with her what she sees when she smiles.

Use the following questions to aid in your discussion.

a. What happens when you smile?

b.  What part of your body shows the most when you smile?

c. Do you think it's important to have a pretty smile?

d. What do you think makes your smile pretty?

*Activity 3* .

Talk about all the different things you should do to keep your teeth healthy and your smile pretty.

Then, talk about the things that can hurt your teeth and make your smile ugly.

For Example:

Things that can hurt my teeth are: 

๐Ÿ‘‰ Junk foods like ๐Ÿซ lollipops ๐Ÿญ sweet biscuits ๐Ÿช๐Ÿฉ sweets ๐Ÿฌ cake ๐Ÿฐ ,pies ๐Ÿฅฎ etc.


*Activity 4*  (Use the worksheet below as a guide.)






Choose 3 foods from the worksheet that are bad for your teeth.

 Draw them on a sheet of paper under  the heading, BAD FOODS.

*Activity  5.*

Choose 3 foods from the worksheet that are good for your teeth. 

 Draw them on another sheet of paper under the heading GOOD FOODS.

*Activity 6* .

Colour your pictures, take a photo of your work and post to your teacher.
