Science: Germination

Content: Most plants grow from a seed. This process is called GERMINATION . Plants need the right conditions to grow well . All seeds need air, moisture (water) and the right temperature to germinate. Some seeds need sunlight whilst others need darkness to grow. Germination Process: Step 1: A seed is planted. When the conditions are right the seed starts to take in water. Step 2: The seed begins to swell and the outer covering called the seed coat splits apart. Step 3: Air gets into the seed and helps the baby plant inside the seed to grow. The baby plant is called the embryo. The embryo has 2 parts: the root and the shoot. Step 4: The root grows downward into the soil and the shoot grows upwards and above the ground, towards the light. Step 5: The shoot develops into a new plant as it continues to grow and sprout new leaves. When something is long it is sometimes considered tall. For example a pencil can be called long and it can also be called tall. Further examples: girls you are short and your parents are tall.
